SEO Case Study: Technical and Onsite.

The website has 10 year old domain age and 100s of unique posts. The WordPress theme working is SEO led, also performance is front of mind. This website is 100% organic SEO focusing on onsite and including technical improvement. I fondly refer to this website as my Opus. It is so powerful that it returns for some phrases even before paid search almost like a Table Mountain Wikipedia.

SEO Case Study – Hike Table Mountain

Hike Table Mountain is Cape Towns original guided hiking tour operator. Ranked #1 on Trip advisor since 2014. The owner Riaan Vorster is published author on the topic. 15 years later you will still find him tour guiding and scrambling up table mountain. He is also the amazing content creator for his website. This project is one of my favourites, highlighting that content has and always will be king. Combining that with my performance SEO skill set, and you have not only amazing results, but a wonderful story of pure organic SEO.

Hike Table Mountain SEO Tasks:

In 2020 I was approached by the WordPress developer of this site. He asked if I could assist his client (HTM) with SEO. Never in my career I have I worked on a website with so much specialist content. Having unique copy on a single topic is the holy grail for ORGANIC search. My task with SEO is optimising the treasure trove of copy, and clearing the indexing bloat to maximise crawl bandwidth. I have been working slowly and methodically applying best practice fundamentals of traditional onsite and technical SEO. This is made easier with a client like Riaan who trusts in my passion for SEO matching it with his passion for Table Mountain, and the amazing content he produces for his website. When updates like HCU happen, to have a client who trusts your process is key to recovery.

SEO Coach Results & Conclusion:

Here we can see the story from the beginning of this year, reaching SEO glory of site average position 8.6 in April 2024. In June we can see the flux of HCU. There was a point where my positioning went from 8.6 down to 13.1 and to say I was bleak is an understatement. I simply carried on applying best practice SEO, consistently. As HCU ran its course not only did my fundamental approach hold true, the site has come back stronger in the SERPs. In some cases it holds 1 and 2 spots based on my semantic SEO strategy.
